As for cave damage, the red formation to on the left side of the frame has a few little "dings" in it from other divers pushing through without taking their cylinders off. I often remove cylinders to lower my profile so that I WONT create that kind of damage to the cave, as is the case here. We are working relentlessly to protect these amazing caves and this cave in particular is currently being proposed to the Bahamian Government(by us)as part of a Blue Holes National Park. This would allow us to create a managment plan that would lower impact on the cave by only allowing cave divers who are quailified and experienced into the more delicate parts of the cave.

Safe diving, Brian Kakuk

You are right not a fair comparison! My apologies!

P.S. Sad about the guy in Utah--but he was not a professional caver. These two are Fellows of the National Speleological Society. Top cavers.

The two cave divers involved here are among the top technical divers in the world. Ever. They are dedicated to cave conservation and exploration. See the recent PBS/NOVA special "Extreme Cave Divers." No damage. As for risk--Jill and Brian minimize as much risk as possible with years of training and experience, top equipment, redundant systems, and common sense. No glory hounds here, just dedicated explorers and conservationists. And hey, if it was easy, everyone would be doing it!

Sean

I wonder what these guys do if they get stuck like this guy:

At a point your risk increases so much, is it worth it? Also it looks like he's damaging the cave with his tank...

Maybe: THIS is crazy is a better title? LOL
